No one likes getting a cold. Many avoid getting a cold but when you do get a cold what is it “really” about and what can you do?
In my knowledge, knowing and reality, we “catch” a cold because our minds and bodies are temporarily out of balance. They are going at such different speeds to each other and need to come back into a workable and positive balance again.
When we get a cold, we need to take a few days then to relax, rest, take care of ourselves and allow the cold to run it’s natural course. For many people this may take three days, for others it could take seven or anything in between.
Remedies people use can range from chicken soup, to cold chicken livers placed on your back in ancient Haiti folklore to high doses of Vitamin C, to eating whole raw or roasted garlic. Of course there are also many many pharmaceutical products and each person who uses such products will swear the best results from one rather than another.
A lot of breakthroughs can happen when you are going through the process of a cold. Realizations happen more and commitments to yourself may be made. Recently a long time client and student of mine told me that when and because she had a recent cold, she was able and “forced” to take the time to tune into herself and in doing so realised that it was time and that she needed to come once again and do an intensive with me. Something which she did do and which changed her life forever. If she had not had that cold it is more than possible that she would have just kept on keeping on, unaware that she had some deeper needs which were as yet unmet. Her life would of course have been far less open, rich and promising than it is for her right now having done the intensive. This is just one small example.
While going through a cold, deep emotional “stuff” and childhood “stuff” can come to the surface and be released and moved through. There is the sleep, rest, dreams and even hallucinating while feverish… Those magical moments when the walls of reality break down. It’s all good.
Who would have thought that the common cold, left to it’s own devices, could bring such richness and awareness? It can! So try putting products aside and take time for yourself instead. Simply make a point to rest, relax, settle down, pamper yourself and go with the flow…
